Band Booking Send us a message in Myspace (link above) if you'd like to play the night at some point, we'll check you out and let you know. In the meantime, I'll try and come up with some tips that may help you get bookings elsewhere. Playing London Every band that wants to make it, wants to play London sooner or later. Having booked bands for this night in London I've got a few tips. First of all read this blog written by Mick Wood of Bar Monsta - one of the good guys! He names and shames some of the dodgy promoters working the London scene, and some of the scams they pull. Secondly, don't believe the myth that there are A&R men hanging about in every London venue every night of the week, just waiting for the next big thing - it's true that most A&R people are based in London, but from what I've heard they study the regional press and go to see bands that are creating a stir in their own region, so make sure you maximise your local publicity, and keep copies of press-cuttings. When you do get gig offers, remember that not every venue in London has a decent PA system nor are they all packed with punters every night either, so if you have friends / family / fans down there then it's worth getting them to check out the venue you are being booked for before you agree to anything. You don't want to go all that way, play to an audience of 6 through a toy PA system and find the promoter has done a runner before the end of your set! Better still, have a search on myspace for bands that have played the venue and get a bands view of the venue, and if you can find other bands that have worked with that promoter, see what they think too. To be continued, check back again! |
